The Daniel Roth Extra Plat Rose Gold won the Time Only prize at the 25th Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, awarded in Geneva on 13 November 2025. The watch makes its case with two hands and no complications, leaving the case, dial and calibre to carry the argument.
Per its GPHG entry, the watch had launched in May 2025; the prize came half a year later.
A double ellipse, 7.7 millimetres thin
The lugs were redrawn for this model with softer curves and a downward angle for fit. Each one is made as a separate piece and hand-soldered to the case, one by one, in what the maison calls a traditional horological method.

The dial is two metals doing two jobs. The base is solid white gold, decorated with guillochage en ligne, a pinstripe guilloché; the chapter ring for hours and minutes is rose gold 5N. Black Roman numerals, black coated steel hands, and an individual watch number finish it.

A movement shaped for the case
The DR002 is a manual form movement, developed and assembled at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton under Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini, the workshop that has carried the brand since its 2023 revival. It mirrors the double ellipse of the case, fills the space with large wheels, and finishes its flowing bridges with hand-polished bevels.
A single large mainspring sits below the bridges. The winding bar click is handcrafted as one piece, which the maison credits for the precise feel of winding.

The Extra Plat Souscription provides the nearest comparison. It uses the same DR002 and has exactly the same case dimensions. The Rose Gold version has a 5N rose-gold case and a two-tone white- and rose-gold dial. The brand states that the DR002 was developed from the ground up for the Extra Plat collection and will serve as the base for future complications.
The double ellipse returns
By the maison’s own press file, Daniel Roth founded his brand in 1988 after mastering complications at Audemars Piguet and Breguet, and drew the double-ellipse case to give the tourbillon a leading role. The ultra-thin dress watch, by the maison’s account, was a favourite of his: he had the silhouette in mind in the 1980s, and the first Extra Plat Automatic arrived in 1990, a year after the Tourbillon C187.

The revival that began in 2023 with La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton retraced that history in order: first the Tourbillon Souscription with the DR001, then the Extra Plat, the second chapter now carrying a GPHG prize.
